Maybank’s golf events have earned a well-deserved reputation for featuring a host of off-course activities, curated to engage and entertain spectators with a wholesome and enriching experience.
Maybank’s golf events have always been about the overall experience, offering spectators numerous off-course activities in a carnival-like atmosphere.
This spectator-centric focus was taken to new levels in the last few stagings of the Maybank Championship, where world-class golf and wholesome fun merged seamlessly at Kuala Lumpur Golf & Country Club to provide a great day out for one and all.
The activity hub was the air-conditioned exhibition tent, dubbed The Village, which gave spectators a chance to check out Maybank’s corporate empowerment initiatives and our event partners’ offerings, while taking part in fun activities and games.
At the Maybank Heart2Heart booth, spectators were invited to pen words of encouragement for paediatric heart patients through handwritten letters. Run in collaboration with Institut Jantung Negara (IJN), the Heart2Heart campaign aims to provide life-saving treatments for paediatric heart patients among underserved children in the ASEAN region. Popular stops included the We&I booth which displayed artwork and merchandise from differently-abled artisans, the Maybank Women Eco-Weavers booth, and the vibrant Autism Café Project in support of the autistic community. For those bitten by the shopping bug, retail therapy was readily available at the TaylorMade and Under Armour retail space.
In the KLGCC clubhouse main lobby, the MAE Kids Zone was a popular stop for families with young children. Spectators were also treated to an exhibition of paintings by Maryam Khairul Anwar, a 12-year-old artist who translates her journey in Down Syndrome into beautiful creations.
Food has always been a huge part of our golf events, and the 2024 Championship kept that tradition going at the Sama-Sama Lokal Bistro, where spectators were able to satiate hunger pangs and hydrate thirsty throats in a breezy, casual setting overlooking the practice green.
Past editions of the Maybank Championship featured appearances by celebrity chefs, including MasterChef Australia winners Diana Chan and Sashi Cheliah in 2019, and other well-known culinary maestros such as Anis Nabila, Anton Mosimann and Adrian Richardson.
One of the most unique activities of the Maybank Championship was the "Beat The Pro Challenge” in the 2018 and 2019 editions, where invited amateurs were given the chance to take on the professionals in a Nearest The Pin contest during the actual tournament.
