ASEAN OPPORTUNITIES

In line with Maybank's unwavering commitment to inclusivity and opportunity, the ASEAN Qualifier is designed to give rising talents from the region a chance to shine and compete with the best.

The 2025 ASEAN Qualifier saw a remarkable surge in participation, almost doubling last year’s field of 35 golfers to 69, setting the stage for a fiercely-contested battle for the five coveted Maybank Championship spots.

Following two days of top-notch golf action at Kuala Lumpur Golf & Country Club’s West Course, Thailand’s rising amateur star Kritchanya Kaopattanaskul topped the leaderboard with a 36-hole total of seven-under-par 137 (67, 70). She also lit up the first round by scoring her first-ever hole-in-one at the par-three 4th hole.

Kritchanya, 17, will be joined at the Maybank Championship by compatriots Achiraya Sriwong (amateur), Namo Luangnitikul (amateur), Cholcheva Wongras and Kan Bunnabodee. The 16-year-old Sriwong finished solo second on five-under-par 139 (72, 67), five shots ahead of Luangnitikul on even-par 144 (73, 71). Professionals Wongras (75, 71) and Bunnabodee (74, 72) shared fourth position on two-over-par 146.

Malaysia's Ng Jing Xuen and Genevieve Ling finished joint sixth on three-over-par 147, just one shot outside the top-five.

The Maybank Championship’s focus on regional inclusivity and empowerment saw the introduction of an ASEAN Qualifier in 2024.

The ASEAN Qualifier is open to all female professionals and amateurs aged 14 and above, from Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam. The top five finishers in the 36-hole stroke play event will earn 'Sponsor’s Invitations' to the Maybank Championship 2025.

The 2024 qualifier attracted 35 golfing talents comprising professionals and leading amateurs from the ASEAN region. Indonesian Ida Ayu Indira Melati Putri emerged victorious with a total score of two-under-par 142 (74,68), just one stroke ahead of Thailand’s Chayanit Wangmahaporn (69, 74).

Malaysia’s Liyana Durisic tied for third on one-over-par 145 (73, 72) alongside Indonesian amateur Kristina Natalia Yoko (68, 77). The final qualifying spot was claimed by experienced Malaysian professional Nur Durriyah Damian with a total of 147 (73, 74).
