WHERE THE BEST MEET

Over the years, Maybank’s golf events have featured some of the world’s top players competing for honours against the region’s leading golfers and our home-grown talents.

Among the big-name players who have graced our men’s golf events are Major winners Rory McIlroy, Padraig Harrington, Ernie Els, Charl Schwartzel, Louis Oosthuizen, Henrik Stenson, Danny Willett, Graeme McDowell, Martin Kaymer, Darren Clarke, along with icons such as Lee Westwood, Miguel Angel Jimenez and Thongchai Jaidee. Testament to the in-depth quality of the fields is that only one Major winner managed to win, namely Oosthuizen in the 2012 Maybank Malaysian Open at Kuala Lumpur Golf & Country Club (KLGCC).

When the Maybank Championship returned as a marquee ladies’ event in 2023, forming part of the LPGA Tour’s Asian swing, that world-class tradition was amplified and enhanced. Over the two editions of the Championships so far, a veritable who’s who in ladies’ golf have thrilled spectators at KLGCC – including Nelly Korda, Lydia Ko, Jeeno Thitikul, Lilia Vu, Ayaka Furue, Jin Young Ko, Hannah Green, and the 2023 and 2024 winners, Celine Boutier and Ruoning Yin.

It was not just the quality of the players and their skills that defined our golf events as world-class. The overall organisation, set-up, spectator engagement and player hospitality during each tournament were of the highest standards, matching and indeed surpassing other renowned golf events worldwide.
