The MGSP is a testament to the Group’s unwavering commitment to nurturing the leaders of tomorrow in which it has empowered over 2,100 scholars since the 1970s to pursue higher education at top local and international universities.

Building on the recent success of the ASEAN-Maybank Scholarships award in which ten talented ASEAN nationals were recognised during the 58th ASEAN Day celebration, Maybank now turns its focus to home grown talent, investing deeply in Maybank’s future by supporting bright, deserving youths who demonstrate academic excellence, leadership, and a passion to make a meaningful difference in society.

In his keynote address, Tan Sri Dato’ Sri Ir. Zamzamzairani Mohd Isa, Chairman of Maybank Group and Maybank Foundation, emphasised on Maybank’s enduring commitment to shaping the future through education.

“Education is the most powerful engine of social mobility, it opens doors, breaks cycles of poverty, and allows young people to dream without boundaries. Our scholars are not only recipients of support, but also ambassadors of Maybank’s values and future. The MGSP underscores Maybank’s enduring commitment to education as a catalyst for long-term progress — fostering capable, responsible leaders who will shape a more equitable and sustainable future. The scholarship program is also in tandem with Maybank’s Social Impact pillars, affirming our role in driving meaningful change in the communities we serve and reinforcing our mission of advancing a more sustainable and inclusive future.”

For 2025, Maybank received over 4,000 applications and each candidate was rigorously assessed on academic merit, extracurricular achievements, leadership capabilities, and personal background, including financial needs. The selection process included detailed interviews and assessments, ensuring that only the most deserving and promising students were recommended for this year’s scholarships.

The Maybank Scholarship offers more than tuition sponsorship and allowances. Recipients gain access to exclusive networking opportunities and internships within the Group. These experiences equip scholars with practical skills and insights, preparing them for the professional world and ensuring a smooth transition from academia to meaningful careers. Upon graduation, all recipients are offered positions within Maybank Group, fostering a cycle of growth, contribution, and leadership development within the organisation.

Chin Jing San, one of the scholars of this year’s MGSP said “Being a Maybank scholar is life-changing, it is not just financial support, but a community that values character, inspires growth, and feels like family.”

“This journey as a Maybank scholar is more than a privilege, it is a path to discover, to challenge myself, and to shape a better future.” said Muhammad Russel Bin Redhuan, a scholar of the MGSP.

Since its inception in 1972, the Maybank Scholarship Programme has been a beacon of hope for students, particularly those from lower-income backgrounds, granting them access to quality education in Malaysia, the United States of America, Australia, and the United Kingdom.

Many past recipients have blossomed into influential professionals and visionary leaders, including some who now contribute their talents back to Maybank and the wider community, exemplifying the lasting impact of this initiative.

This programme exemplifies Maybank’s commitment to its sustainability agenda—specifically the goal of uplifting two million households across ASEAN by 2025. It also aligns with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Goals 4 (Quality Education), 10 (Reduced Inequalities), and 17 (Partnerships for the Goals), reinforcing Maybank’s role as a responsible corporate citizen dedicated to inclusive and equitable progress.

Administered by Maybank Foundation, the Group’s social impact arm and an accredited ASEAN entity, this scholarship programme is part of a wider portfolio of initiatives aimed at driving positive change. Other notable efforts include the award-winning Cashville Kidz financial literacy programme and the ASEAN-Maybank Scholarship in partnership with the ASEAN Secretariat.

To-date, Maybank Foundation has cumulatively impacted over 591,563 lives across ASEAN through its financial inclusion and empowerment initiatives, including 48,741 lives across ASEAN, advancing its mission to humanise financial services and empower communities through education, environmental stewardship, and social inclusion.
