The Crown Stays in Asia for Ruoning

At the second edition of the Maybank Championship held in October 2024, Ruoning Yin etched her name into history with a flawless final-round 65, clinching a dramatic one-stroke victory at Kuala Lumpur Golf & Country Club.

The 22-year-old from China outlasted fierce challenges from Thailand’s Atthaya Thitikul and Korea’s Haeran Ryu, finishing at a commanding 23-under-par 265 to secure her second Asian Swing title and third LPGA victory of the season.

The Championship also celebrated a new milestone for Malaysia, as rising amateur Mirabel Ting soared to a tied-12th finish — the best ever by a Malaysian — while Ashley Lau impressed in tied-22nd. With record crowds and ASEAN pride on full display, the 2024 Maybank Championship proved itself once again as a stage where dreams are chased — and made.

The First Queen of The Green

The golf world witnessed a spectacular comeback when France's Celine Boutier won for the fourth time in 2023 and emerged victorious in the inaugural Maybank Championship at Kuala Lumpur Golf & Country Club today, but not before enduring a marathon nine-hole playoff win over Thailand's Atthaya Thitikul.

Overcoming a one-stroke deficit on the final day, Boutier claimed a LPGA Tour victory after they traded nail-biting sequences in a record-equalling playoff on the LPGA Tour that was held on the 18th (par 5) and 15th (par 3) holes, showcasing exceptional skill in the US$3 million tournament.

Boutier's journey to victory unfolded over a four-day competition, in which she demonstrated exceptional skill and determination, finishing with a 21-under-par 267 total, alongside Thitikul. This outstanding achievement places her in the esteemed company of this year's multiple winners, a roster that has already witnessed a number of rising stars in women's golf.
