Maybank appoints Mohamad Yasin as new Group CEO, Islamic Banking and CEO of Maybank Islamic Berhad; Malique Sidique as new Group Chief Audit Executive

Maybank has appointed Mohamad Yasin Abdullah as Group Chief Executive Officer (GCEO), Islamic Banking and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Maybank Islamic Berhad effective 1 October 2025. Yasin will be responsible to lead the Group’s Islamic Banking franchise and pursue Maybank’s ambition to be a global leader in Islamic finance. He will oversee all aspects of Maybank Group’s Islamic finance business including business strategies, product development and innovation while ensuring risk management and Shariah-compliant management are of gold standards. He will report to the President & Group Chief Executive Officer of Maybank and be a member of the Group Executive Committee.

 

Yasin, 52 years old, currently serves as the Group Chief Audit Executive where he led the development and launch of the Maybank Group Audit Strategic Plan 2023 – 2025 (GRASP25) that has elevated the Group Audit function by adopting global best practices and providing assurance and insights for all sectors of the Group.

With more than 28 years of extensive experience in banking and finance, Yasin began his career with the Group in 1997, before serving in various finance roles outside of Maybank, including that of Chief Financial Officer (CFO). Returning to Maybank in 2010 as CFO of Maybank Investment Bank Berhad (MIBB), his career within the Group progressed into various senior leadership roles in Maybank Investment Banking Group (MIBG), including CFO, Chief Operating Officer and CEO-International.

 

Yasin is a Chartered Banker with the Asian Institute of Chartered Bankers. He is a Fellow Member of The Association of Chartered Certified Accountants, The Chartered Institute of Management Accountants and the Certified Islamic Professional Accountant. He is also a member of The Malaysian Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Malaysian Institute of Accountants. He holds a Bachelor of Accounting (Honours) and a Master of Business Administration in Finance from International Islamic University Malaysia.

 

Maybank has also appointed Malique Firdauz Ahmad Sidique as its new Group Chief Audit Executive (GCAE) effective 1 October 2025 succeeding Yasin. In this role, he will report functionally to the Audit Committee of the Board and administratively to the President & Group Chief Executive Officer of Maybank.

Malique, 47 years old, will drive the continued transformation of Group Audit, building on GRASP25. Leveraging his extensive experience, he will play a pivotal role in providing advisory to all sectors and position Group Audit to play a key role in supporting the Group’s future aspirations via sound internal controls, risk governance and organisational resilience.

Malique brings over 25 years of leadership experience in financial services, spanning finance, governance, and operations. Earlier this year, he served as Acting Group Chief Financial Officer, and since August 2025, he assumed the position of Officer-in-Charge, Group CEO of Islamic Banking and CEO of Maybank Islamic Berhad.

 

He began his career in the United Kingdom, where he spent a decade, before returning to Malaysia to join a local bank and later Maybank Investment Bank in 2012. Since then, he has held several pivotal leadership roles across the Group, including CFO of Maybank Investment Banking Group and Maybank Investment Bank, Group Financial Controller, CFO of Group Islamic Banking, and most recently Head of Group Performance Reporting. 

 

Malique holds a Bachelor of Science in Accounting and Finance from the London School of Economics.  He is a Fellow Chartered Accountant with the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales and a member of the Malaysian Institute of Accountants. He is also a Chartered Banker with the Asian Institute of Chartered Bankers.  He was awarded Certificate in Business Excellence from Columbia Business School Executive Education.
